Hypnotherapy For Depression

Hypnotherapy For Depression

We understand that living with depression can be challenging, and traditional treatments may not always provide the relief you need. That's where hypnotherapy can help.

I specialise in helping individuals overcome depression by addressing the root cause of their symptoms. Through guided hypnosis sessions, I help clients access their subconscious mind, identify negative thought patterns, and replace them with positive ones.

Unlike traditional therapy, hypnotherapy allows you to bypass your conscious mind and access your subconscious mind directly. This means that you can overcome limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns that have been holding you back for years, in a fraction of the time it would take with traditional therapy.

Our hypnotherapy sessions are tailored to your unique needs and goals. We work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan that takes into account your individual circumstances, personality, and preferences. Whether you're struggling with a specific issue or just feeling overwhelmed and stuck, I'm here to help.

If you're ready to break free from the grip of depression and take back control of your life, hypnotherapy may be the solution you've been looking for. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and take the first step towards a happier, healthier you.

What is Depression?

What is Depression?

Depression is defined - Depression is a mental health disorder characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest or pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable. It can also cause physical symptoms such as changes in appetite, sleep disturbances, and fatigue. Depression can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, or background and can significantly impact daily functioning and quality of life.

Depression is not simply feeling sad or having a low mood, i.e. feeling depressed about something that's not going well in your life.

Many people feel like that they can't get out of bed, like they are living in a black cloud, or the colour has drained from their vision - these are all common experiences for those living with the symptoms of depression.

Treatment for depression it is not the same as needing to "cheer up", "think more positively" or "that things could be worse". Depression is unlikely to go away on it's own without some form of professional help.

Those that are experiencing depression can often develop patterns of behaviour that may appear to be self-sabotaging or addictive to food, drink, sex, drugs, gambling or substances.   It is thought that the reason for this is due to the changes in the chemistry in the brain that these actions cause - that it provides something like a temporary relief from the experience of anxiety; even though these patterns of behaviour are unlikely to be in the individual's long term best interests.

It is a treatable condition with various therapeutic approaches, including, hypnotherapy for depression, and many different lifestyle changes. If you suspect that you or someone you know may be experiencing depression, seeking professional help is recommended.

What Causes Depression In The First Place?

What Causes Depression?

My personal belief is the biggest factor in determining if someone will develop depression in later life is their psychology:-

  • how they think about things
  • how they think about themselves
  • how they think about their relationships
  • how they think about the future
  • also, the experiences that they have had over the course of the lifetime
That's the great thing about Hypnotherapy for Depression, as it can help someone to change their thought patterns and even re-shape how they feel about the experiences that they have had over the course of their life.

I believe that there is a strong link to anxiety and earlier emotional challenges, particularly in childhood.  That doesn't necessarily have to mean abuse or neglect, although sadly for many people this is the case.

It can simply mean that things happened at a time in your life before you had the life experience to understand them fully.

There are of course, physiological reasons that can exacerbate the symptoms and experience of depression.  For example it is known that those that live with many physical health changes or live with chronic pain conditions, such as fibromyalgia are more prone to experiencing depression.

It is important to keep in mind - depression isn't simply your thoughts.  It is a full-body experience that affects your nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, endocrine (hormonal) systems and digestive systems all have a role to play in the experience of depression.

You can't just stop thinking depression-type thoughts; it doesn't work like that.

What about social anxiety?

It is perfectly understandable to have some level of apprehension about doing anything new, for the first time, or something that you don't feel confident or initially comfortable doing.  This is a natural response to new things and it's part of the brain's defence "mechanisms" to make sure that you are concentrating, alert, and focused.

Imagine if we all felt perfectly at-ease and relaxed in new situations? What would job interviews, first dates, work presentations look like?  This level of anxiousness is an important part of life as it helps us to focus and give the necessary attention to very important things that are going on in our lives.

For those that experience depression, it can be that they can become anxious at the prospect of social interactions that they once would have looked forward to and enjoyed.

However...

Social anxiety is a type of anxiety characterised by intense fear, nervousness, and discomfort in social situations.

Individuals with social anxiety may experience anxiety and self-consciousness in social situations, such as public speaking, meeting new people, or participating in group activities. They may fear being judged or embarrassed in front of others, and may avoid social situations or endure them with significant distress.

Social anxiety can interfere with daily activities, relationships, and quality of life.

When I experience depression, I have lots of Intrusive Thoughts, can Hypnotherapy help?

- I can't let anyone know how I actually feel

- People think badly about me
- I just want to help people
- I can never do enough for people

Hypnotherapy for  depression can help to change this patterns of thought very quickly!  Imagine how you might feel if you go in to a situation thinking differing about yourself, the other people, how you relate to them and understanding that you are an equal to them.

Are Panic Attacks the same as Anxiety and/or depression. Can Hypnotherapy help with Panic Attacks?

For anyone that experiences or has experienced a panic attack, you have my greatest sympathy.

When I think back to my own personal experiences of them in the past, I can easily recall how physically debilitating, painful, and truly terrifying they can be.  Also, that there always seemed to be a period of recovery time afterwards when I felt fatigued, "brain-foggy", and emotionally depleted.

I wonder if that might resonate with you?

Think of it this way...

I believe that for anyone that experiences anxiety, sometimes it is necessary to "push-through" and continue living your life on a day-to-day basis.  However... We can ignore our anxiety and depression - and continue to push-through when we shouldn't.  Our brain is trying to communicate something to us about the situation we find ourselves in and "it" (our brain's) believes that we are in immediate danger of some sort - whether it is true or not, it really doesn't matter!

Our subconscious mind instructs our body to start to freeze and we get the feeling of shutting down.

Hypnotherapy for depression can help your mind to unlearn the whatever it is that is causing this situation to arise in the first place.
